Echo Power Tools & Garden Machinery: Professional Performance Since 1947

For over 75 years, Echo has been a trusted name in professional-grade outdoor power equipment, known worldwide for its chainsaws, brushcutters, hedge trimmers, blowers, and multi-tool systems. Designed in Japan and built with precision engineering, Echo tools have earned a reputation for power, durability, and reliability among gardeners, landscapers, and forestry professionals across the globe.

From Humble Beginnings to Global Recognition

Echo's journey began in 1947 when the Kyoritsu Noki Company Ltd. was founded in Japan. Initially focused on agricultural solutions, the company introduced revolutionary products like the manual duster and the power duster-fogger, aiming to enhance pest control efficiency. This commitment to innovation laid the foundation for what would become a global leader in outdoor power equipment.

Pioneering Developments in the 1950s and 1960s

In 1955, Echo expanded its horizons with the introduction of the DM-Series backpack power duster/mist blower, marking a new era in pest control. The 1960s saw further advancements with the development of the first Kyoritsu brushcutter, known as the Power Scythe, in 1960. Three years later, in 1963, Echo released its first chainsaw, the CS-80, which prominently featured the "ECHO" name, signaling the brand's entry into the chainsaw market.

The 1970s: Innovation Inspired by Necessity

The 1970s were marked by significant innovations born out of necessity. In 1970, during a drought in California, a group of landscapers modified the DM-9 backpack sprayer by removing the liquid tank and sealing the hole. This modification allowed the unit to blow powerful bursts of air, effectively clearing grass clippings and leaves from pavements. Echo engineers took note of this ingenuity and, in the same year, launched the PB-9, the first-ever power blower, revolutionizing outdoor cleaning.

Responding to Global Challenges in the 1970s and 1980s

The 1973 oil crisis led to increased demand for alternative heating methods, prompting the need for efficient firewood preparation. Echo responded by introducing the CS-302 chainsaw, a compact and affordable model that gained worldwide recognition and remained in production for 20 years. In 1981, Echo introduced a twin-cylinder opposed chainsaw, showcasing its commitment to pushing the boundaries of engine technology.

Technological Advancements in the 1990s and 2000s

The 1990s saw Echo continue its tradition of innovation with the introduction of the curved shaft power edger in 1990, enhancing precision in lawn maintenance. In 1992, Echo launched the Shred 'n Vac, an innovative product that combined blowing, vacuuming, and shredding capabilities, streamlining garden work. The early 2000s brought the i-start system, featured in brushcutters and power sprayers, which won the Gold award at Urbavert 2001 in France, highlighting Echo's leadership in user-friendly technology.

In 2018, Echo embraced new technologies by introducing its first fully automated robotic mower. This move into digital and battery technology marked a significant step forward, combining over 70 years of expertise with cutting-edge innovation to offer products that meet the evolving needs of customers.
